Originally delivering ethical skincare solutions to millennials (with the White Label line), Dermaenergy is adding a luxury line. Designed for a more mature audience, Dermaenergy Black Label is medical-grade skincare, formulated with higher concentrations of active ingredients for greater stimulation of skins concerned with ageing.
Want to know more about Black Label? Dermaenergy creator Sean Abel reveals how it differs from White Label, and gives some clues about the products joining the line-up.
What is Dermaenergy Black Label?
Black Label Is essentially a step up from the original White Label Dermaenergy skincare line, which was created for younger skins—largely those concerned with acne and preventative anti-ageing. Black Label has been formulated as a stronger, more active line for more demanding skin. It is our overactive skincare line. It is recommended for those aged 35 and up.
We think of these 2 labels together as Yin and Yang – complementing one another to create a stronger whole.
As a cosmeceutical, we are helping resolve skin conditions rather than managing skin types. Most skin conditions are treatable with the Black Label—ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, congestion, rough skin, dehydration. The only skin condition we don’t treat is acne, as this is addressed by the White Label.
How does it differ from White Label?
It differs because it’s stronger. Where ATP is featured at 1% in White Label, it comes in at 4% in most products. The main active in each product, like niacinamide for example, is doubled.
Unlike the original line, Black Label will be strictly sold in skin clinics only. As it’s double the strength, it’s approximately double the price. To reflect the luxury positioning, it will feature more ‘grown up’ sleek packaging, and more serious names. For instance, the luxe equivalent of White Label’s Hydrate and Inflate hyaluronic acid serum will be the HA3 Serum. The 3 denotes the greater strength of the formula.
Why are you different??
Dermaenergy believes most of us aren’t cleaning our skin properly. We created a skin brush, kind of like a toothbrush for the skin. It is a fine silicone brush to enhance the cleanser. Used every time you cleanse, ensure active serums penetrate better and less exfoliation is needed, reducing irritation.
Dermaenergy also believes in a liquid exfoliant over a physical one. An AHA exfoliant will dramatically reduce irritation and gently exfoliate the skin.
Dermaenergy believes our skin is becoming more sensitive with the overuse of irritants, like scrubs, retinol, glycolic acid, fragrances, PEGs and sulfates.
We are a glycolic, fragrance, PEGs and sulfate-free brand. Our cleansers are all sulfate-free which means you can clean the skin without causing irritation over time. The cleansers are luxuriously foaming without drying the skin out.
Overall, we are a cosmeceutical achieving results while minimizing irritation simultaneously.
What is the 3 series?
Our 3 series serums (A3, B3, C3 and HA3) contain three different versions of their signature active ingredient.
A3 Serum contains Vitamin A - Retinyl Palmitate, Retinol and Encapsulated Retinol. Combined create a stronger but more gentle serum that with just one Vitamin A source. Encapsulated Retinol will slowly release into the skin reducing skin irritation. This is our strategy to achieve maximum results with Retinol reducing the irritation.
B3 Serum contains Vitamin B - Vitamins B1, B3 and B5. B1 or Thiamine is an anti-stress vitamin. B3 or Niacinamide is multi versatile and has many functions on the skin, including treating pigmentation and has a soothing effect. B5 or Panthenol is abundantly hydrating.
C3 Serum contains Vitamin C - Ethyl L Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Encapsulated Vitamin C. Each with a unique rate of penetration into the skin, ensures the skin remains protected from pollution all day long.
HA3 Serum contains low, middle and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. Low is deeply hydrating to deeper layers of the skin. Medium is middle penetrating and High remains on the outmost layer to hydrate desquamation enzymes that help to exfoliate the skin. By saturating all layers of the skin with Hyaluronic Acid, the complexion is kept thoroughly moist, softened and hydrated.
What are the stand-out ingredients, products & innovations?
We have seen such great results with ATP, we are quadrupling this active in the Black Label. This is essentially what defines our brand. There is plenty of data on ATP. Numerous clinical studies have tested the efficacy of this ingredient. What’s been shown is that ATP optimises the water balance of the epidermis. It reduces Trans-epidermal water loss and stimulates the metabolism of the skin. We know, nothing works without water. For the skin to fulfil its variety of tasks, the skin needs sufficient water. If we were severely dehydrated, we wouldn’t be able to do much. Our energy levels would be low. Skin that’s full of water, means skin that’s full of energy.
We also have a gorgeous hydroxy acid liquid exfoliant, LQD Exfoliant.
Our Revive range moisturisers all have pre- and probiotic moisturisers with blue light protection.
As well as a stunning, matte-finish SPF50+ sunscreen we call Serve and Protect and a mineral sunblock, Mineral Protect. This also contains Porcelain Flower extract, that luminates the skin and calms it too.
What’s your favourite Black Label product?
Considering each product has been created with such consideration and thought, it is hard to single out a few, but the top 3 would be our 3D Cleaner, HA3 Serum and the Mineral Protect (chemical-free sunscreen). These have surpassed our expectations.
